Eldoret was set to host this year's national Mashujaa Day celebrations at Kipchoge Keino Stadium on Tuesday 20 October. The event is being held jointly by three North Rift counties.
Rift Valley Regional Commissioner Abdi Hassan said extra police, including plain-clothes officers, have been deployed at the stadium, parking areas, hotels and key installations. National Government Administration Officers and National Youth Service personnel will guide the public, especially during and after the march-past.
Hassan warned that the celebrations do not give anyone immunity from the law, and urged motorists and visitors to follow the instructions of traffic officers and to use the designated parking areas.
Several government events were held in Eldoret during the week before the holiday, including a finance theme week at The Eldoret National Polytechnic. Mashujaa Day is a public holiday honouring those who fought for Kenya's independence and others who have served the country.
