Ghana has tightened Ebola screening at its entry points, especially Accra's airport, citing cases in Kenya and Nigeria. Its Ministry of Health announced the measures on Wednesday, 21 October.
The ministry said direct flights and high passenger numbers between Kenya and Ghana raise the risk of the virus being imported, and noted that more passengers arrive from Kenya than from the Democratic Republic of Congo. Ghana has not recorded any Ebola case.
The measures include monitoring travellers from high-risk areas for 21 days, simulation exercises at Accra International Airport and the Ghana Infectious Disease Centre, updated laboratory procedures, training for health workers and public education at the airport.
Kenya has confirmed nine Ebola cases, all linked to one known cluster. El Salvador has barred entry to travellers from Kenya and seven other African countries, and the United States has raised its travel advisory for Kenya to Level 3, according to Kenyans.co.ke. Kenya's Ministry of Health says there are no restrictions on travel, trade or public gatherings within Kenya.
The reports used for this story did not include a response from Kenya's government to Ghana's measures.
