Harambee Stars still searching for goals as South Africa double-header looms

Kenya have one point from two AFCON qualifiers, with the tournament on home soil next year.

Harambee Stars lost 1-0 to Guinea in Conakry, leaving Kenya with one point from their opening two qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, after a 1-1 draw with Eritrea in a game where preparations were disrupted by a pay dispute.

A goalless friendly against Rwanda in Kigali extended Kenya’s winless run to three matches. Assistant coach Vasili Manousakis said improving attacking penetration is the priority before the double-header against South Africa.

Former internationals have warned of embarrassment as Kenya prepares to co-host AFCON 2027 with Uganda and Tanzania. Coach Benni McCarthy has urged fans to keep expectations realistic, while the Football Kenya Federation has publicly backed him.
