The Kenya Meteorological Service Authority has issued a marine warning for Kenya's coastal and offshore waters, saying rough to very rough seas are possible in places.

In a notice posted on Friday morning, the Met said east-south-easterly to south-south-westerly winds of 4 to 24 knots, about 2 to 12 metres per second, are expected, with locally stronger winds possible. A wind map shared with the warning shows the forecast for Sunday evening, 25 October.

The Met advised mariners, fishers and other sea users to take extreme caution, especially where winds and waves are strongest. It said small boats in exposed waters should take safety precautions and follow official marine forecasts closely.

The warning comes as the Met expects rain in parts of 45 counties up to 29 October, with isolated storms possible in parts of Lamu, Kilifi, Mombasa and Kwale. The seven-day marine forecast is on the Met's website.
