Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) was the best-performing share on the Nairobi Securities Exchange this week, rising 17.2 percent from Sh9.00 last Friday to close at Sh10.55 on Friday, according to a StarNews analysis of NSE trading data.
The week had four trading days because of the Mashujaa Day holiday on Tuesday. Of the 56 shares StarNews checked, 36 closed lower than a week earlier, 17 rose and 3 were unchanged.
KPC's rise followed Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote's purchase of a 24.7 percent stake in the company, confirmed earlier this week. About 5.4 million KPC shares changed hands over the four days.
Uchumi Supermarket rose 8.5 percent to Sh1.40, and shares in the Nairobi Securities Exchange itself gained 5 percent to Sh31.50. Africa Mega Agricorp rose 5.2 percent to Sh330, though fewer than 900 of its shares traded all week.
Shri Krishana Overseas fell 8.6 percent to Sh14.85 and Nation Media Group 8.5 percent to Sh13.95. Family Bank dropped 6.7 percent to Sh25.80, and East African Breweries lost 5.7 percent to Sh271.
Safaricom was the most traded share, with about 39.3 million shares changing hands, and closed 4.6 percent lower at Sh33.30. KCB Group fell 4.7 percent to Sh85.25.
