President William Ruto has signed the County Governments Additional Allocations Bill, 2026 into law, giving the 47 counties Sh71.09 billion in additional allocations for the 2026/27 financial year. He signed it on Monday, 19 October, at the Eldoret State Lodge, together with the County Assembly Services (Amendment) Bill.

The total is Sh425.6 million more than the Sh70.67 billion in additional allocations for 2025/26, according to Citizen Digital and Capital FM. Kenyans.co.ke reports that Sh53.82 billion comes from development partners' loans and grants and Sh16.46 billion from the national government's share of revenue.

The money supports programmes including health, agriculture, climate change resilience, drought response, and water and sanitation. The law sets out how both conditional and unconditional funds move from the national government to the counties.

The second law sets procedures for removing members of county assembly service boards and for suspending or removing county assembly clerks, including written reasons and a hearing. It also protects the pay and benefits of staff on secondment.
